During art A Levels students are given 13 words to choose from and create a sketchbook based on this word as a part of the coursework. In year 12 the word I chose was ‘Green’. When doing this sketchbook I focused largely on the idea of nature, specifically looking to the idea of rebirth and ‘Mother Nature’.
The photo I decided to use was developed from a photograph taken by the photographer Lola Melani. Her work illustrates the immediate bond created between a mother and her child and incorporates aspects of nature into her work either through her subject’s surroundings or through the directing of the models. For this image the nudity of the mother and child symbolises the innocence of the relationship and was something I wanted to include when I first came across Melani’s work.
